20 leaders from different Youthzones went to the Joburg Theatre to watch 21 poets and a poem on Friday evening.

The show blew us away with sentence upon sentence of life changing lyrics and rhyme that was almost to much to take in.

Personally, besides the content of the show, I was just really impressed with the youngsters on stage: their passion, talent, intelligence, soul, life... it totally humbled me. It reminded me that if I walk past a face on street I have no idea of the endless beauty and potential that is in their hearts and minds. I was convicted of small-mindedness and woke up...

One of the hundreds of sentences that stuck in my mind, was: "the cost of living is high if you living a lie"...

One umlungu: totally galvanised...

Great showcase, enjoyed the poetry (it took me back to my writing days). It was deep and quick there were raw emotions on the duality of I. Loved it.

I'm a creative, that I know. Yet I was speechless after the play.

I only knew about "a" play an hour before, yet I was at the center since 12h00. and when I knew about "the" play, I was excited, enthusiastic and Oh-so-looking forward to it. Schalk pumped me up with expectations and on every aspect, he was right. I was not disappointed. Instead I came back revived, with a new light, "... sparkle......calling from my pillow, with a protest from dreamland...".

I Love-to-hate the fact that it was talking to me as I saw myself in Themba's shoes. For "...the people I inspired, inspired me to get a real job.." J.O.B. Just Over Broke. I'm an artist, a poet yet I teach old people how to write their names; kids how to press a computer keyboard and have to report to a principal everyday. Nothing wrong with that, but it's not me. I am Themba.

Themba!!!!! Themba!!!! Themba!!!!.........Wake up!!!

Besides that I had a great time, met new people like Scotch (great guy), Khotso (needs discipline) and many others. We talk and reflected on life and current affairs like Yizo Yizo *laughing out loud* and also tried to figure out the cause of increase of animosity in today's youth. Schalk, Doc and Simon cracking jokes at each other.

Great night well spent

What a session! It was an memorable experience and something I am still reflecting and writing on the lessons I learnt last night during the session. It was so touchy and I could not join the other lads for drink afterwards but I walked around looking bit serious or sane while digesting everything. Normal we will sit around after any session and reflect on it, it can be life skills, poetry, drama, dancing session etc. But my highlight and the lesson I learnt is from the youth from around youthzones who this morning were imitating different characters of the play and making their own play and the main character Themba was Masilo from Mabopane who woke everyone acting as Themba. So without pushing them to sit down and reflect or write the lessons or the poetry session by themselves they started imitating the characters of the play and share the lessons. That's my highlight and everyone left home singing and dancing. They were friends also at the end of the day. The play with its life teachings was also a tool to create family, friends and hope amongst these lads by bringing them together by dancing in the same place, laughing, sharing. Thanks to Scotch for organizing or coming with the idea of watching the play.
