Inspiration

I am Cecily and I am on the management committee of the FSSA. I have been so inspired to see and hear what you guys and girls are doing in your regions. You seem to have so much energy and enthusiasm for participating in these youth zones. Schalk and Doc are also amazing in what they are bringing and I hope that you all can use their knowledge and skills to learn lots about life and sport and many other things. I also hope to be able to be more involved with the project as time goes by, and…

give it up

yesterday while standing in bumper to bumper traffic in the rain, five men opened my car door and and asked for my telehphone, with the added persuasiveness that they would shoot me if I didn't hand it over. As I reached for my phone, they saw my laptop uncovered and asked for that also, under the same conditions of compliance. Lastly was the brainwave that I should have a wallet, so in the end they ran of and kept my iphone, macbook and wallet. I kept my car and my…

Joint Training Event in Jozi

Wow! The agenda was a 2 day Peter Block Seminar where leaders from the youth zones were to be trained in community building, facilitation and teamwork.

The outcome was 3 days of bliss where 14 strangers became close friends. Representatives from Upington, Umzimkhulu, Mutare, Manica and Siyabuswa added life and wisdom to the seminar.

I trust that all the participants will write about their experiences on the pages of their respective sites, but as the team reflected on what they… Continue

Young Killers

It might sound strange, especially to Europeans, if I say that yesterday I played football with young killers. However, the moment you learn that this is a name of a football team in Siyabuswa and that the killing refers to football related performance, everything becomes a little more comforting. The name is ironic though. Our programme aims to make South Africa safe, to reduce crime and to promote social justice, intercultural tolerance and a positive choices for young people. It is funny… Continue

Authenticity

Some will argue that being born in or living in South Africa, makes you a South African. I'm an Afrikaner, a Dutchmen, Buno, Boer... and what I'm discovering is to call myself a South African, I have to grow with the country. As Mzanzi changes shape, I need to flex, learn, become. This is in no way tedious or a depressing moral obligation- it's an exciting invitation to become part of peoples lives, to learn new things, to inculturate, to make friends. My 2010 World Cup wish, besides that the… Continue

Leadership success stories : Blog competition

SOMETIMES IS SO HARD TO BE A LEADER JUST BECAUSE, FOR SUCCESS YOU ARE POINTED FINGERS AND PRAISED BUT, AT THE SAME TIME FOR FAILURES YOU ARE THE SAME TO BE POINTED FINGERS AND BLAMED. MUST STRIKE HARD AND MENTAIN CONVINIENCES TO THE SOCIETY AND ACCHIEVE THE GOALS INTENDED.ONE CAN GAIN MORE POWER, SUPPORT AND VALUE IF GOES WELL AND THE O

Let go of your stresses!

A psychologist walked around a room while teaching stress management to an audience. As she raised a glass of water, everyone expected they'd be asked the 'half empty or half full' question. Instead, with a smile on her face, she inquired . . . 'How heavy is this glass of water?'

Answers called out ranged from 250 grams to 500 grams.

She replied . . .  'The absolute weight doesn't matter. It depends on how long I hold it. If I hold it for a minute, it's not a problem. If I hold…
