Despite the rains that had been falling moments before our arrival, we found Disebo and her young team of more than 40 kids anxiously waiting for us in Zenzele. We were very well received amid excitement and dancing from this mixed group mainly comprising of kids and a couple of teenagers. As we got down to business, our very first task was a special and delicate task where we had to write one of our sponsor's name on the ground using soccer balls!! It was a good life-skill on its own. I was so surprised by the level of determination and commitment shown by the kids as we together tried to make it happen. The influence and control that Disebo has on this young group is so refreshing. As she barked instructions, the kids obeyed and did exactly what they were told to do. After successfully completing the task, we took some pictures from critically high points with the help of one of the the older boys and thereafter, Doc led us to other life-skills activities.

To wind off the day, Doc had time to give computer lessons and how to access the internet. It's during this time again when Doc had to do a bit of career guidance after first asking them what they would want to be in future. It was great hearing most of them answering that they wanted to be doctors, teachers, nurses and pilots!! Doc emphasized to them that nothing was impossible for as long as they stay focused and hardworking. They were also urged to stay away from criminal and immoral  activities. Afterwards, it was time for equipment distribution where all teams received a fair share of Chevrolet soccer balls, bibs and boots for their leaders. The sense of hope and belonging that these young shining lights of Zenzele have, is so amazing. Surely, this informal settlement will produce wonders one of these days
