"The Day of Reconciliation is an annual public
holiday held on 16 December.
Historically it was celebrated as Dingaans Day
and celebrated the triumph of the Voortrekkers
against the Zulu army led by Dingaan at the
Battle of Blood River.
After the first democratic elections in 1994, the
name was changed to the Day of Reconciliation,
with the intention of promoting national unity
and fostering reconciliation.
This day is about overcoming the conflicts of
the past and building a new nation.
So tell us what does this day mean to you? And
what are you doing to mark it?"
