KWAMAKHUTHA THE NEW YOUTHZONE SITE VERSUS UMLAZI THE ANCIENT SITE

It was awesome visiting both of the places and having to meet with the leaders who are doing great in their respective communities. The people of Kwamakhutha welcomed me with both hands as i started there in order to see how is the place and the people living around it. It took me a while to adjust to the language but i managed to learn. The Kwamakhutha is a small community faced with violence amongst the community members and the social issues faced by youth which are teenage pregnancy, alcohol abuse and drug abuse. People of the Kwamkhutha community tend to compete amongst each other in terms of which family is disadvantaged and they look down on each other instead of helping and fighting poverty together. I observed that the most of the Kwamakhutha youths lacks inspiration and someone to look up for as a mentor in order to pave the good path for them. Youths are giving up in life because they have no one to look at or motivate them, they lack life skills. It is now good that the Youthzones will be part of the Kwamakhutha community and as usual intervene in terms of bringing hope, so it will be up to the community response because Youthzone is the bridge and its more up to you to figure out how you make the most out of the opportunity you get from them.

I had to visit one of the existing site at Umlazi and that is where my journey conclude. I was accommodated by one of our leader Thulani whom i will not forget him for what he did for me in terms of making me feel free and really took care of me in all possible departments. I call him the special one for the great work he is doing to his community in terms of having to dedicate his entire time and love in coaching the most difficult gender, the ladies of the Umlazi and also the young kids of Umlazi. The people of Umlazi are dedicated in participating in sports specifically soccer although they are disadvantaged by lack of resources that more that 10 teams have to share one soccer pitch which is very devastated to see some teams not even been enabled to play. I am really inspired the community of Umlazi although negatives are always there but the youth is pulling fantastically. The one soccer team that stood up for me was the ladies Arsenal soccer team coached by one of our leaders which is doing well and have a feeling it will go far. Yesterday i was given an opportunity by the Arsenal fc coach to train the ladies and be part of the yesterday afternoon session which all went well and the ladies responded well too. I had fun time at Durban and it was a good experience and i learnt much that i will definitely reflect in my community and my team. Never limit your potential and always aim high. The sky is the limit
