Millions of South African youngsters may be unemployed, but they are rarely idle. In fact, they work incredibly hard and some are even solving some of our pressing challenges.
Indeed, young people have demonstrated resilience time and again with their approach to earning incomes through hustling.
Take the case of one of our very own young and talented Thabiso Bianca from Kanana, Hammanskraal. Thabiso started with nothing, he was involved in a accident and couldn't walk but today he is married with 2 beautiful kids, and has an amazing big house.
He is a mechanic, creates beautiful products out of old material, scraps and old steel beds to make fancy benches, he even makes stunning flooring out of rubble. This is the language of Youthzones, turning rubbish into beauty. Yesterday he had visitors who wanted to purchase his products in large volumes.
Thabiso didn't wait around for an opportunity, he created his own opportunity and took the initiative.
Hustling is a form of resilience in adverse circumstances. It can provide precious resources to young people in the face of contracting economy.
This is all about finding your passion, your drive and a good idea.
