I have been putting a lot of expectations on myself for almost 2 years now, and it got to a point where I was so extremely exhausted my health just went down the hills. I couldn't sleep well, nor eat well and everything I was doing wasn't going accordingly.
I got better lil by lil by taking it easy on myself for sometime, till recently I started noticing the same pattern of what I went through. So I immediately told myself not this time, never.
Expecting too much from yourself is damaging to your self-esteem and overall wellbeing. It's good to have high standards, but it's important to be reasonable with yourself. Expecting too much from yourself can be associated with disappointment, burnout, anxiety, and depression and low self-esteem.
When you take care of yourself, you're a better person for you and others. When you feel good about yourself, you treat others better. By taking care of myself I have so much more to offer the world than I do when I am running on empty.
