Birthday well spent - Yesterday was my birthday. I really enjoyed myself with youths from Sakubva, Dangamvura, Chikanga, Hobhouse and City Centre for a district tournament for indoor and outdoor games at Dangare Primary School. When I arrived at the grounds, all youths burst into song as they sang 'Happy Birthday to to you'!!! It was so intriguing. The spirit of togetherness between Mutare Youthzones is getting better and better every time we meet. To kick-start the tournament, the 100 plus youths were split into 4 groups and did several life-skills sessions for team building and bonding. Thereafter, the games burst into life and boy oh boy, several hilarious moments followed. You should have seen the Hobhouse boys football team struggle against a girl-studded Chikanga team. Next was the much awaited derby between Sakubva and Dangamvura. What an exciting encounter reminiscent to the Pirates vs Chiefs game. It had to be decided by penalties of which Dangamvura won 4-3. The final game pitted Dangamvura and Hobhouse. As anticipated Hobhouse was walloped 3-0. Dangamvura ruled the roost in football whilst Sakubva did the same in netball. What a day well spent. It was indeed a great birthday for me.

It has been a terrific moment, meeting Schalk, Doc, Phil, Nathan, Jan and several guys from GDM here in Manica!!! Everything here is awesome. We had a great game though we lost by 3 goals to 1. I believe tomorrow will be a better day for us as far as football is concerned.

We are sad to announce that we lost of one of our junior players at Sakubva UBCYF FC, Tawanda Mutare. He passed away at the Provincial Hospital on Sunday last week due to a stomach ailment. May his soul rest in peace. Sincere condolences to the family and all friends. Thanks to all UBCYF members who attended the funeral and assisted the family during this tough time.

Yesterday,Tuesday 26 June 2012,was another day to remember here in Mutare,as we had visitors from Arsenal Community Coaching ( Phil and Nathan) and our great friends from Youth Zones-( Doc and Simon). These Guys made our day great and unique,as all youths enjoyed every moment with theses guys here. Believe this, soccer session ended late in the evening-1800hrs,YES 1800Hrs, as youths find it difficult to end the soccer session due to the excitement they were experiencing with these guys. There was lot of life skills training and Fun as youths learnt a lot from form the Visitors.

Being able to be back in Jozi through Youthzones, has been very interesting. It was awesome meeting some people I knew from the website but had never met and several other new friends. I always had something new to learn from these guys. The very first day we met, everyone was so reserved but as time moved, all characters were exposed. With characters like 'Upington',  we were always laughing. He was so hilarious. I had so much to learn from the presentation by Professor Johan Prinsloo. Eish, I didn't know that we are all criminals in a way or the other and that I am a co-creator!!! The presentation by Audrey-Marian & team was also an eye-opener in our community work endeavours. I was also VERY impressed by a guy called Aaron Passchier, who stays with Doc. He is a sailor by profession and had time to talk to most us about his job and even availing opportunities to us. He was so encouraging and accommodating. The visit to Sandton City is inexplicable. We had a rare to meet SA soccer legends like Mark Fish, Lucas Radebe, Jerry (Legs of Thunder) Sikhosana, Morgan Gould and many more. I was amazed by the humility of these guys, they did not hesitate to have photo shoots with almost everyone of us. The debate at Freedom Hall in Soweto and the football game afterwards brought us together as one BIG family. As we slowly separated, that's when we realised that we are now connected and hopefully we will stay in contact updating each other of progress, challenges and also visit each other. I already miss everyone!!!!!

I am very impressed by the reaction of the whole world football family in wishing a speedy recovery to Fabrice Muamba who collapsed and suffered a cardiac arrest during an FA Cup game between his team Bolton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur. It really shows how sport can help uniting people regardless of race, tribe or colour!! GET WELL SOON MUAMBA!!!
