The last session of the four month Breaking Barriers course was held in Gansbaai last Friday.

In collaboration with the Football Foundation of South Africa, Active Communities Network, and ETA College, Breaking Barriers aims to provide a pathway to employment for individuals in the community. More specifically, the programme equips students with the skills and knowledge to become sport coaches and work with diverse populations.

Possibly the most diverse and motivated group to date, the students enjoyed meeting each Friday to learn about administrative, management, and practical skills needed to become a community coach. Over the course of the programme, participants volunteered in their communities, hosted a sports clinic, and became experts on their sport specialization.

In the last session, students delivered their final coaching demos to the rest of the group and displayed their accumulated skills. The second half of the day gave the students the opportunity to improve their hand written assignments, coaching plans and personal reflections.

The third and final cohort of a three-year programme, this group has produced some shining stars and we look forward to the impact these individuals will have on their communities.

Students are thrilled to attend Breaking Barriers Graduation on the first of August.

Congrats to Mziyanda Matiwane for successfully completing the first phase of the Laureas Youth Empowerment through Sport Program...on completion,he was also sponsored a laptop from one of our good partners Youth Zones, Thank You Schalk and Doc

In preparation for a tournament in Capetown this Saturday our Hockey guys successfully completed a training-match against the u-11 soccer team. After a thrilling match where the inexperienced soccer guys countered very well our team won well-earned (4-1) with the aid of team spirit and motivation.

The guys looking foreward to the hockey tournemant in Cape Town and  the coaches will report you soon how it was!

BURSARY IN SPORTS COACHING STUDIES

 

eta Coaching and Fitness skills programme kicks off at the end of January 2013 in Gansbaai. This course is a six month accredited programme of education and development for community coaches. The programme aims to up-skill participants in the following areas:

 

• Sport for community development and social change,
• Coaching and instructor development, and
• Business management and personal growth. 

 

To apply, please write a 1 page motivational letter, explaining why you would like to register for the course.

 

Hand-deliver or post your CV and motivational letter to the Overstrand Municipality offices in Gansbaai, 7220. Your documents must be addressed to: Carol Devitt, Gansbaai Breaking Barriers. Documents can also be dropped off with Ayanda Stali (Sport Manager) at the Overstrand Municipality in Hermanus.

 

Applications close on Wednesday 31 October 2012 at 17:00 pm.
